Ravi Teja was born on 26 January 1968 in Jaggampeta, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name was Bhupathiraju Rajagopal Raju and his mother’s name was Bhupathiraju Rajya Lakshmi. Bhupathiraju Rajagopal Raju was a pharmacist by profession. Ravi is the eldest of his parents’ 3 children, his other 2 brothers are Raju and Raghu. They are also actors like Ravi.
Due to his father’s profession, Ravi spent most of his childhood in Uttar Pradesh, India. He completed his schooling in Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai and Bhopal. Later, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siddharth Degree College, Vijayawada. Since he was interested in acting since childhood, after completing his studies, he started modeling and working in TV serials. Ravi considered Amitabh Bachchan as his role model.
Ravi Teja married Kalyani, a resident of Ganapabaram, West Godavari district, on 26 May 2002. The couple has a daughter and a son. The son’s name is Mahadhan, the daughter’s name is Mokshada.

To start his career in films, Ravi went to Madras in 1988 while he was studying for his graduation. There, he worked in small roles in some films from 1990 to 1992. Then Ravi met the film director Krishna Banshi. He worked as an assistant director under Banshi in the film ‘Nine Pelladatate’ in 1996. After that, he worked as an assistant director in some other films and continued to act in small roles. As a result, he got an opportunity to work as a lead actor in the film ‘Nee Kosam‘ in 1999. The film did average business at the box office. After that, he acted in the films ‘Teja Itlu Srabani Subramaniam’ in 2001, ‘Anu Ballidaru Ishta Padadaru’ in 2002 and ‘Idiot’. These films took him to a leading position among actors.
