Dulquer Salmaan was born on 28 July 1983 in Kochi to actor Mammootty and his wife Salphat Kutty. He has another Boro sister, Surumi. Salman completed his primary education from Tok-H Public School in Vityla, Kochi and secondary education from Shishya School in Chennai, after which he completed his bachelor’s degree in business management from Purdue University. After completing his studies, he started working in an IT firm in Dubai. Later, to pursue a career in acting, he took a three-month acting course at Barry John Acting Studio in Mumbai.

Salman married Architect Amal Safiya on 22 December 2011. Amal’s family is Muslim and they live in Chennai. Salman said in an interview that he and Amal studied in the same school. The couple had a daughter on 5 May 2017.
