Ganesh Kishan (born 2 July 1978) is an Indian Kannada actor, director, producer and television presenter. He is better known in Kannada cinema as Ganesh. Through his work, he has gained recognition in films and TV shows in a short time. In his short career, he has received several awards, including two Filmfare Awards for his unimaginable talent. Ganesh rose to fame in 2006 with the film “Mungaru Male”. For the movie, he received the title of “Golden Star” from the audience.

Early life
Ganesh was born on 2 July 1978 in Adakamranahalli, a village in Nelamangala, Bengaluru Rural district, Karnataka. His father’s name is Kishan, he is originally from Nepal and belongs to the Gurkha clan, his mother’s name is Sulochana, who is from Karnataka. Ganesh is the elder of two brothers, his younger brother is Mahesh. Mahesh is also a Kannada actor who made his debut with the movie “Namak Haram” in 2015.
Ganesh completed his primary education at Basaveshwara English School in Nelamangala, and completed his secondary education at Standard English School in Dasarahalli, Bangalore. Although he was not very attentive to his studies, he was very active in cultural activities. While studying in college, he actively participated in inter-collegiate drama skits.
Career:
2002–2005:
Ganesh’s acting career began with a telefilm called “Guttu”. But it remained unreleased. After graduating with a diploma in film acting, he worked in television series and sitcoms, and also performed in road shows and orchestras. His big success on television came with the talk-show Comedy Time which was aired on Udaya TV. He achieved the song “Comedy Time” Ganesh after the success of the show.
He made his big screen debut in 2002 with the film “Tapori” where he played the role of a villain. In 2003, he played a side-kick role in 3 more movies. Thus, he acted in various small roles till 2005.
2006–2008:
In 2006, he got the opportunity to play the lead role in the film “Chellata” directed by M.D. Sridhar. In the same year, he acted in the film “Mungaru Male”. In 2007, Ganesh worked in the movie “Krishna”. In 2007, Ganesh acted in the movie “Cheluvina Chittara” and won the title of “Golden Star” as well as the Uday Film Award.
2008–2015:
In 2008, Ganesh did 4 movies at once. At the beginning of the year, he acted in the movies “Prakash”, “Galipata”, “Ekti Triple Hero Naukri-Yuger Comedy“. All 4 movies were successful commercially. He performed exceptionally well in the movies “Thirthahalli” and “Agumbe” which helped him win his first Filmfare Award. Ganesh’s next success came with the movie “Armaan”. But after this, two consecutive movies “Bombay” and “Sangma” flopped. He started again in 2009 with the comedy movie “Circus”. Soon, he acted in a blockbuster movie “Malayali Jotheyali” which won him his second Filmfare Award. He acted in the remake of the Telugu film “Ullasammaga Uttamaga” and the remake of the Tamil film “Kushi Eno Onthara” in 2010.
2016–present:
In 2016, four of his films were released at the box office. He then acted in the drama “Zoom”. He did not act in the sequel to the 2007 film “Mungaru Male 2”. At the end of the year, he released a comedy film “Sundaranga Jana”. His films “Pataki”, “Mugulu Nage” and “Chamak” were released in 2017. After that, he did not have any commercially successful films until 2019. In 2019, he appeared in the audience with the remake of the Tamil film “96” with the film “99”. His next films were “Gimmick” and “Geeta”. “Sakkath” was his only film in 2021. In 2022, he acted in the film “Galipata 2”. After that, he acted in the comedy drama “Triple Riding”. In 2023, he acted in the film Banadaryalli. Another film in which he acted was “Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi” which was released in 2024. Ganesh’s new movie “Yours Sincerely RAAM” is awaiting release .
Brand ambassador
Ganesh signed as a brand ambassador with Reliance Mobile in 2009-2011, Coca-Cola in 2010-2011, and Coca-Cola’s Rim-Jim products in 2022.
