Varalakshmi was born on 5 March 1985 in Bangalore, Kannada. Her father is a South Indian actor Sarathkumar and mother is Chhaya. Although she was born in Kannada, she was raised in Chennai. Varalakshmi completed her secondary education from St. Michael’s Academy, Chennai, graduated in microbiology from Hindustan Arts and Science College and completed her postgraduate studies in business management from the University of Edinburgh.
She has another name, Varu Sarathkumar. People close to her call her by this name. Her interest in acting was born in a film family. So she went to Mumbai and studied acting at Anupam Kher’s acting school there. In 2012, she got a chance to work in a lead role. In 2003, Varalaxmi was selected for the movie ‘Boys’ but due to the intervention of her father Sarathkumar, she turned down the movie. Similarly, she turned down the offers of the movie ‘Kaadhal’ in 2004 and ‘Saroja’ in 2008. Then, she made her debut in 2012 with Vignesh Sivan’s romantic drama ‘Poda Podi’. Although the work on the movie started in 2008, it took time to release due to delays. After 2 years out of movies, she made her debut in the Kannada industry in the movie ‘Manikya’ in 2014.
